Triay/Brea, precious semifinal: they will face Iglesias/Guinart

The world No. 2 pair defeated Jensen/Icardo in just over an hour to secure a spot in the BNL Italy Major semifinals. A crucial milestone also in terms of rankings: they are guaranteed to gain ground on the world No. 1 pair. Iglesias/Guinart won the quarterfinal clash of the underdogs against Barrera/Caparros

46 minutes and not a single game lost in the first match, 68 minutes and only four games conceded in the second. Easy? Only when the names on the back of the shirts are Triay—Gemma Triay—and Delfi—Delfi Brea. The world No. 2 team at the Foro Italico aims to win their second consecutive Major and continue their climb to the top of the rankings. So far, everything has gone perfectly in Rome, with less than two hours of total court time needed to book a spot in the semifinals. The quarterfinal against Claudia Jensen and Tamara Icardo could have posed a threat, but ended 6-3, 6-1 without stress or danger, in favor of a duo that has an extra gear when playing at their best.

At the Pietrangeli court, Gemma and Delfi made their intentions clear right from the start, with their padel combining patience and aggression, earning a semifinal that already carries weight in the battle for the No. 1 ranking. Gemma—who lost in the semis in Rome last year—is now sure not to lose any points, while Delfi will improve her tally (she went out in the quarters in 2024). This means that, thanks to Rome, the chasing duo is guaranteed to close the gap with Sanchez/Josemaria, the world No. 1s, who must defend their title and thus will not earn additional points even if they repeat their win.

On Saturday, Triay/Brea will face the tournament’s surprise pair, Victoria Iglesias and Marina Guinart, reaching their first semifinal in the Premier Padel circuit. An impressive milestone achieved at a Major, thanks to Thursday’s win over No. 4 Araujo/Ustero, followed by a double 6-3 victory against Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros. “I love Rome, even more than my Seville,” Iglesias told her partner on the bench after the match. They celebrated with playful water splashes, like two young girls eager to keep dreaming and having fun.
