Stupa-Lebron advance with a scare, semifinals against the Chingalan

If yesterday at the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel was the day of surprises (especially in the women’s main draw), today it's back to certainties with some very specific names: Franco Stupaczuk, Juan Lebron, and the Chingalans. In fact, the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded pairs booked the first tickets to the men’s semifinal, which will take place tomorrow

A nerve-wracking win for Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron in the day’s opening match on the Centrale court, as they edged out Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz (winner of the last Premier Padel Finals) 6-3 6-7 7-6, in a rematch of the Buenos Aires P1 quarterfinals two weeks ago. A very balanced match decided in the third set, just like at the Miami P1, confirming the strong form of the Spanish pair. "Congratulations to Jon and Momo, they’re always tough to face," said Lebron after the match. “Against players of this level, you can’t afford to lose focus for a second – it gets really tough,” added Stupa. “But I’m happy because we gave it 100%, and our chemistry keeps improving. Now it’s time to focus on the semifinal”.

Their next opponents will be Chingotto and Galan, who in the second Centrale match beat Inigo Jofre and Alex Arroyo (who partnered with Edu Alonso until the Asuncion P2) 7-6 6-3 in their first-ever Major quarterfinal. The Chingalan had to raise their level after the “walk in the park” 6-0 6-2 win over Perino-Huete, winning the first set in a tiebreak and securing two breaks in the second thanks to a signature shot of theirs: the lob. “Yes, playing precise lobs was one of the keys to this match, and I have to thank Fede for that (laughs),” said Galan after the win. “Now we’re thinking about tomorrow’s match and hoping to perform well in front of this wonderful crowd”.

All eyes now turn to tomorrow’s semifinal, where Lebron and Galan will face each other for the third time in as many editions of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel. As always, this clash between former partners promises thrills and spectacle.
