On one side: Lorena Vano, Caterina Baldi, Marianela Montesi, Giorgia Rosi, and Clarissa Aima. On the other: their shared goal of securing a spot in the main draw of the BNL Italy Major. The five Italians will fight for it on the courts of the Foro Italico on Sunday and Monday, across two rounds of a 16-pair qualifying draw revealed on Saturday morning.
Among the seeds is Lorena Vano, listed at No. 4. The Caserta-born player from Malaga won silver with Italy at the FIP European Championships in Cagliari last summer. Playing again with Spanish partner Lucia Peralta (as in Rome 2023), the 25-year-old will open against Clasca/Vivancos. All-Italian pair Clarissa Aima and Giorgia Rosi—winners of the pre-qualifiers—will make their Premier Padel debut facing the No. 7 seeds of the “previa” Brazil’s Manuela Schukh and Portugal’s Patricia Ribeiro. A challenging but intriguing test for the rising Italian duo. Romagna's Caterina Baldi and British partner Aimee Gibson will face the No. 3 seeds Garcia Trella/Lopez Diaz from Spain.
It will be a very tough draw for Italo-Argentine Marianela Montesi and Spanish partner Carla Castillo, who landed the first team just outside the main draw. They’ll face French player Carla Touly and the legendary Carolina Navarro, long-time world No. 1. At 49 years old, Navarro plans to retire at the end of 2025 but still has the hunger to compete and enjoy the game.
Giulia Sussarello and Emily Stellato were unlucky, missing the qualifiers by just one spot.
First round on Sunday at 10 AM, with the decisive round on Monday—also from 10 AM. Lorem ipsum
