From Paris to Rome, Sara Errani for a third Major: "We'll try to win another one"

After her double triumph at Roland Garros, Sara Errani will arrive in Rome on Sunday evening to dive into her first experience at the BNL Italy Major, where she’ll make her Premier Padel circuit debut on Tuesday. It’s a taste of the future: “When I stop playing tennis,” she recently said, “I’d like to dedicate myself to padel full time.”

She’s already secured two Majors at Roland Garros—on Thursday with Andrea Vavassori and on Sunday with Jasmine Paolini—while the third for Sara Errani will come from Tuesday onwards at the Foro Italico. She’ll swap her tennis racquet for a padel racket, but not the competitive fire that still burns bright in the 38-year-old, who keeps finding the motivation and strength to improve—and surprise.

"After winning two Slam titles in Paris... I can’t wait to get to Rome, where we’ll try to win another one — this time in padel! I’m flying out tonight and will start training right away. I hope to recover some energy because right now I’m really tired" said Sara Errani, the mixed doubles and women's doubles champion at the 2025 Roland Garros.

While she was crafting her double victory in Paris, came the twist: a wild card entry into the fourth edition of the BNL Italy Major, alongside Giulia Dal Pozzo. Sara will be a star among stars, taking on the challenge seriously as another (not even the first) glimpse into what her future might hold. She’s long said her future lies in padel, has recently repeated it, and her actions confirm it: like catching a flight to Rome on Sunday evening to ensure she gets a full Monday to prepare before her debut in the main draw—and on the Premier Padel tour—on Tuesday.

The Italian champion will return to the Foro Italico, where less than a month ago she claimed yet another doubles title, in a different but equally captivating role. Her padel prep was understandably slowed by her run in Paris, but she’ll make up for the lost time with pure enthusiasm—the same drive that has long accompanied her growing love for the sport. “I started playing padel when I moved to Spain for training, about 20 years ago,” she said during her March appearance at the P1 in Miami Beach, held alongside the tennis Miami Open. “At first I played occasionally, now it’s almost every day. When I travel for tournaments, I always try to find a court to train.”

The message is clear: her presence in Rome isn’t just a cameo—Sara truly knows her way around a padel court. And the BNL Italy Major won’t be a one-off. It’s not even her first time competing as a “pro” in the sport: ten years ago, she was the first Italian to play a professional padel event, in Valencia with Anabel Medina Garrigues. This year, she has already played in the FIP tournaments in Melbourne and Dubai—first with Italy’s captain Tatiana Garbin, then with Caterina Baldi. “For now,” she said in Miami, “padel is fun. But when I retire from tennis, I want to dedicate myself fully to it”. Meanwhile, she’s already entered the FIP world rankings, and less than 24 hours after claiming her eighth career Slam title, she’ll be on the blue courts of the Foro Italico, soaking in the love of the Italian fans—and aiming to make her mark once again. This time, in padel.
