Bea and Claudia, one hour of show at Pietrangeli: Saturday the semifinal against Sanchez-Josemaria

The women’s draw is now complete, and there’s not a surprise in sight. In Rome, the stars are shining, and after the morning victories of Triay-Brea and Guinart-Iglesias, the wins by the top-seeded pairings in the evening at the Foro Italico were no surprise either

One precise hour of play, both yesterday and today. Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez seem to have a stopwatch on court, managing their matches with perfect timing. Yesterday it was the Martinez-Marrero duo who fell, 6-3 6-0 in the round of 16. Today, the new 2025 pair repeated the feat at Pietrangeli, defeating Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga 6-2 6-3, confirming their excellent form. “We quickly adapted to this surface and also to the climate, since it was much colder in Argentina. Tonight we won a tough match against a very strong team, so we’re very happy,” said Bea Gonzalez after the win. Now the focus shifts to the semifinal: “We’re already thinking about tomorrow’s match and will study our opponents, but we must always think about our own game first—because if we play at our best, we can beat anyone,” concluded the former partner of Gemma Triay (who will face surprise duo Guinart-Iglesias tomorrow alongside Delfi Brea).

The challenge is set. On the other side of the net will be Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, who advanced after a three-set win over Marta Ortega and Alejandra Alonso, 7-6 5-7 6-2. The number one seeds earned their semifinal spot after a tight battle watched by FIP president Luigi Carraro, FITP president Angelo Binaghi, and an exceptional guest, IOC president Thomas Bach. Ari’s tactical intelligence decided the third set, and after the match she admitted: “In the third set, I felt more comfortable, I hit some good shots and managed the game better. I’m happy with these sensations, especially because tomorrow we have another tough match”. Her words were echoed by 'Paulita Dinamita': “We didn’t play our best match, but the important thing was to win. We’re really happy to keep going in this tournament,” she concluded.

Now, a few hours to relax before focusing on tomorrow’s semifinals. The showdown between Ari Sanchez–Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez–Claudia Fernandez promises to be a thrilling one.
