The first matches of the men's main draw at the BNL Italy Major will kick off on Monday morning, but the spectacle of top padel will already land at the Foro Italico over the weekend, with the two rounds (the first on Saturday, the second on Sunday) of the men's qualifiers. Sixteen pairs will compete, determined to secure the last eight spots available among the 56 in the main draw.
For Italy, the most challenging draw has fallen to the duo of Giacomo Miccini and Cristian Calneggia, who, after overcoming the pre-qualifications, will face Belgian Clement Geens and Spaniard Adria Mercadal, the 8th-seeded pair. The other entirely Italian duo, composed of Romans Michele Bruno and Simone Iacovino (wild card), will challenge the Spanish Rocafort brothers, Cayetano and Manuel.
Among the Italian-born players in the qualifiers is Daniele Cattaneo, already a standout in Rome in both 2022 and 2023, with two second-round finishes. Competing with Spaniard Gonzalo Perez Arbona, "Denny" will debut against Arnaldos/Mouliaa. In the draw led by the Argentine pair Mourino/Piotto, also keep an eye on the naturalized players Emiliano Iriart and Nicolas Suescun. The first plays with Marcos Cordoba and faces Leygue/Valenzuela in the opener, while the latter pairs with Adrian Rodriguez Manzaneque and takes on Fazendeiro/Vera on Saturday.
The single round of the women's qualifiers has also been drawn, with eight matches on Monday determining access to the main draw. The draw was not favorable for the Italian pair Caterina Baldi and Giulia Dal Pozzo, who, after winning the pre-qualifications, will face the top-seeded Martina Fassio and Raquel Eugenio. Carolina Petrelli, partnering with Spaniard Marina Pincho Sanchez, will face the 3rd-seeded Castillo/Arellano.
