The best of Navarro/Lebron in 2024: the Number 1s are warned

In an all-Andalusian clash against Ruiz/Gonzalez, Paquito and Lebron prevailed 7-5, 6-3, playing brilliant padel and conceding very little. The affection from Rome may have given them the boost they were looking for, right on the eve of a thrilling semifinal against the number one Coello/Tapia

It's truly evident that the BNL Italy Major, the tournament loved by everyone, was needed to bring out the best version of the Navarro/Lebron pair. In 2024, they had never played a match of this level, often encountering more difficulties than expected. However, in a packed Pietrangeli, they (over)won the Andalusian duel against Alex Ruiz and Momo Gonzalez, defeated with a patient and superior 7-5, 6-3. A result that was anything but certain, considering the value of their rivals and the debut performance of Paquito and the Lobo in Rome, which had more shadows than lights. Apparently, the comfortable victory the following day brought the confidence they needed.

In 48 hours, the former number ones transformed into two different players, capable of having so much fun that they smiled between points. Disrespectful? Quite the opposite. It's their way of being and a precious ingredient for their chemistry, because to win, or successfully accelerate in the crucial phases as they did today, they primarily need to feel good together. Some details still need to be fine-tuned, like the small distraction in the last game that saw them concede (from 40-15) the first break point of the match, but this is the Navarro/Lebron pair the public had been waiting for.

The impression is that the version of the two Spaniards seen on Friday can allow them to compete even against the number one duo Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who won 7-5, 6-4 on the Centrale court against Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido. In the three matches played in Rome so far, the world's strongest pair has yet to impress, which fuels the hopes of Paquito and Lebron. But, if there's a pair that knows how to raise their level when needed, it's definitely Tapia and Coello. Rome has already seen them do it in 2023.
