An outstanding performance by Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan in the semifinal against Di Nenno/Stupaczuk, who were made to look like an ordinary pair by two players in superb form. When Ale Galan and Federico Chingotto play like this, there’s little anyone can do. Even the “Superpibes” Martin Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk, a top pair, were made to look ordinary by the monstrous performance of the world’s number two pair. The semifinal at the BNL Italy Major remained spectacular, as both pairs played at very high levels, but those expecting a marathon had to settle for a 6-2 6-4. Today, the disparity between the two pairs was simply too great. Galan made an impact with every shot from every angle of the court, and scoring a point against Chingotto was almost impossible.
As always, Di Nenno and Stupaczuk fought hard, with Di Nenno proving difficult to break through and Stupaczuk still effective, albeit not at his best. However, the only moment they truly posed a serious threat was in the early stages of the opening set, when a volley from Di Nenno hit Galan in the lower parts, forcing him to stop play for at least three minutes. But the issue was quickly resolved, and from then on, the match was one-sided until 6-2 5-1. The “Chingalan” duo then lost three consecutive games, but never gave the impression that the match could be turned around.
“It was an almost perfect match,” said Galan, “against a very strong pair. In fact, as soon as we dropped our level, they were ready to capitalize. I’m proud of the work I’m doing with Federico: we’ve found great chemistry both on and off the court”. “I’m living a dream,” added his partner, “playing alongside an incredible player. We’re enjoying another final, and we’re ready to give it all on Sunday”. It will be the seventh clash of the season against the number ones Coello/Tapia, with the record standing at 3-3. Rome couldn’t have asked for more.
