After Osoro/Sainz and the Alayeto twins, number one seed Sanchez/Josemaria and number two Ortega/Triay also conquer the semifinals. The women's Major will have the best possible Saturday possible

The first women's edition of the Major at the Foro Italico will have the best semifinals possible. In the top half of the draw, the number 1 seeds Sanchez/Josemaria will face the number 3 seeds Brea/Gonzalez, while in the bottom half, the number 2 seeds Triay/Ortega will take on the Alayeto twins, who are ranked number 5 but became the fourth favorites before the tournament even started, due to the withdrawal of Riera/Icardo (4).
The two pairs that will try to break the duopoly that has characterized the 2023 padel season had earned a spot for Saturday earlier in the morning, and the top players followed them in the evening in Rome, after two very enjoyable matches.
On the Pietrangeli Court, Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega (the number 2 seeds) closed out the match with a 6-4 6-1 victory against the number 8 seeds Sofia Araujo and Jessica Castello, but they had to fight and sweat for nearly two hours to come out victorious. They also had to recover from being a break down in the first set, which had started better for their opponents. However, point by point, the two Spaniards – both former world number ones – started playing better and from 4-4, they managed to make the difference, winning 8 of the next 9 games and crossing the finish line after one hour and 52 minutes.
Meanwhile, a very enthusiastic Central Court applauded the splendid match between Sanchez/Josemaria and the outsiders Virseda/Jensen, who were not rewarded by the outcome (it ended 6-1 5-7 6-1), but were still the protagonists of a performance that forced the number one seeds to play like number ones, especially in the third set. After giving their all in the second set, their opponents suddenly dropped their level, but Sanchez/Josemaria did not, and the Roman crowd is happy about it. Just like last year in the men's tournament, the first time in Rome could not have asked for a better Saturday.
